Will Netflix produce My Holo Love season 2? And if so, when will it release and what will it be about? Starring Yoon Hyun-min and Ko Sung-hee, the South Korean series was inspired by the 2016 Go match between Lee Sedol and the AI system AlphaGo. My Holo Love season 1 released in February 2020.

In My Holo Love season 1, a woman with face blindness disorder, Han So-yeon (Ko), develops a relationship with an AI beta model named Holo (Yoon Hyun-min). After learning to rely on Holo, So-yeon discovers that his appearance is based on his creator, Go Nan-do (also Yoon). Over a 12 episode-arc, So-yeon attempts to find true happiness, while Nan-do grapples with the tragic death of his mother years before. In narrative twist, a devious entrepreneur named Baek Nam-gyu (Nam Myung-ryul) gains control of Nan-do’s optic technology and plans to monitor the general public. My Holo Love season 1 on Netflix was written entirely by Ryu Yong-jae, Kim Hwan-chae, and Choi Sung-joon. Both Lee Sang-yeop and Yoon Jong-ho shared directorial duties.

The My Holo Love season 1 finale goes back in time to answer questions about the death of Nan-do’s mother. Meanwhile, So-yeon goes on the run with Nan-do and reveals the truth about her past, including the reason for her disorder. Crucially, Nan-do manages to successfully disrupt Nam-gyu’s HoloGlass system and restores the original Holo model.  Here’s everything we expect for My Holo Love season 2 on Netflix.

My Holo Love Season 2 Renewal

Netflix hasn’t yet ordered My Holo Love season 2, and there are a couple reasons why. In general, the Netflix waits three to six weeks to assess viewing numbers after new season release. Also, My Holo Love season 1 has been described as a “limited series,” which means that it will likely be a one-and-done production. If the South Korean series becomes a major hit amongst subscribers, expect Netflix to make a renewal announcement before April 1, 2020. My Holo Love season 1 released in full on February 7, 2020, and it’s worth that noting that its South Korean predecessor, Love Alarm, has been renewed for a second season.

My Holo Love Season 2 Release Date Info

If Netflix chooses to move forward with My Holo Love season 2, a new group of episodes would theoretically be filmed mid-way through 2020, with post-production taking up the rest of the year. It’s therefore likely that My Holo Love season 2 - if produced - will release on either Friday, February 5, 2021 or Friday, February 2021 (in accordance with Netflix’s usual one season a year model).

My Holo Love Season 2 Story Details

My Holo Love season 1 concludes with narrative resolution for all the main characters. In the season finale, a flashback sequence reveals that young So-yeon witnessed Nam-gyu kill Nan-do’s mother, this coming after his failed attempt to purchase an AI engine. In the present, Nan-do hacks into MagicMirror’s system, but Nam-gyu correctly predicts the infiltration and successfully reprograms Holo. Both So-yeon and Nan-do get trapped in an elevator, and will seemingly drop to their deaths. However, it turns out that Holo was originally programmed by Nan-do’s mother to protect him at all costs. After Nam-gyu inadvertently confesses to his crimes via a nationwide live stream, Holo self-destructs to protect the people he cares for. The final reveal in My Holo Love season 1 on Netflix comes during the final sequence when Holo shows up behind So-yeon and Nan-do in a wedding photo at the beach.

If Netflix releases My Holo Love season 2, the storyline would most likely follow the romance between So-yeon and Nan-do, along with their new business venture known as HelloGlass; technology that turns facial expressions into a holographic image. As for the potential narrative conflict, it’s possible that Nan-do failed to scatter dark web files that Nam-gyu uploaded. Given Nan-do’s reputation as a tech genius, a new baddie will probably try to take down the competition in My Holo Love season 2 on Netflix.
