Mortal Kombat 11 might not be a stranger to wounds, but the game is bleeding information at a rate that even its most battle-tested roster members would find alarming. A Reddit post sprang up yesterday that appeared to leak Erron Black, the cowboy who originally debuted in Mortal Kombat 10, alongside other convincing leaks of Kotal Kahn and Noob Saibot that showed up shortly after the original post.
Erron Black was already rumored to be appearing in Mortal Kombat 11 thanks to one of the game’s prior leaks on the Steam database. That leak contained an entry for an achievement that was formatted as “TROPHY_ID_PERFORM_2_DIFFERENT_FATALITIES_WITH_ERR.” There are other lines that refer to “RAI” (Raiden) and “JAD” (Jade), so it already seemed likely that Black would be appearing alongside those already confirmed Mortal Kombat 11 characters.
This is the first look at Black, though. The original Reddit post has since been deleted (along with the user’s entire account), but it has been preserved on Mortal Kombat forum TestYourMight. The leak also showcases an almost complete selection screen that showed characters such as Frost, Cassie, The Kollector, Cetrion, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, and Kotal Kahn. Another image shows Noob Saibot, a fan favorite who certainly wouldn’t be out of place rejoining the roster to honor his namesake, series creator Ed Boon.
The Erron Black leak appears to be legit, and has the most evidence supporting it. The image clearly displays him on the customization screen of Mortal Kombat 11, which is harder to fake than a roster layout. He’s also sporting his repeater rifle, hat, and bandoleer, all of which are consistent with his appearance in Mortal Kombat 10. The rest of the roster leak is much more suspicious and should be considered a rumor until proven otherwise. With that being said, however, Jacqui, Frost, and Kotal Kahn were all present in the Steam database achievements, while Cassie Cage has been present in some behind the scenes footage of Mortal Kombat 11. Here’s a look at the allegedly leaked roster:
Obviously, fake leaks are an issue in all areas of the video game industry, but the fighting game genre is particularly susceptible to them. Given the large rosters many of these games now possess, it is fairly easy for trolls to make it appear as though a character has been leaked once the game’s roster selection screen becomes public knowledge. It’s also worth mentioning that there have been an above-average number of major leaks recently, including one that might have spoiled all of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC characters, so it’s possible Mortal Kombat 11 is simply the latest victim.
