Jared Leto releases a Morbius movie first look image teasing his costume and makeup as Michael Morbius, the Marvel Comics living vampire antihero. Although Sony Pictures struck a deal with Marvel Studios that allows Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony is moving forward with its own slate of Marvel-based superhero movies. These range from live-action blockbusters like Venom to the studio’s wildly successful Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (which recently won an Oscar). While both Venom and Spider-Verse will be receiving sequels, with the latter also getting a female-focused spinoff, Sony is additionally developing films based on other Marvel characters.

Morbius the Living Vampire is one such character receiving his own film, with Jared Leto set to play Michael Morbius, a biochemist who attempts to cure his blood disease but accidentally turns himself into a living vampire. Filming on Morbius recently kicked off, with Leto teasing the start of production, and now the actor has taken to social media once again to further hype his next upcoming comic book movie.

On Twitter, Leto posted a photo of himself in costume as Morbius, marking the end of the first week of filming on the movie. However, much of Leto’s face and body are obscured by a clapboard with the title of the movie on it. In addition to the photo, Leto tweeted, “1 week down…11 to go… Get Ready,” along with two vampire emojis. Take a look at the photo below.

Sony officially announced the Morbius the Living Vampire movie in late November 2017, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama on board to write the script. Later, in June 2018, Leto was cast as Morbius and Life’s Daniel Espinosa was hired to direct. Since then, Morbius has fleshed out its cast to include Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft as well as Matt Smith and Jared Harris in undisclosed roles. Now, with Morbius filming started, fans will hopefully get more insight into what to expect from the movie - whether through officially released images like this one or unofficial set photos from the production.

Of course, Morbius the Living Vampire fans will still be looking forward to a full look at Leto in costume as the titular character. The above photo seems to be from before his transition since he appears to have a fairly natural skin tone and eye color. Whereas, as the living vampire in the comics Morbius appears with very pale skin and either red or glowing eyes - and fangs. So fans will have to wait to get an idea of what Leto will look like in full vampire costume and makeup, and whether that arrives via an official photo or set photo remains to be seen. But at the very least, fans have gotten their first look at Leto in Morbius and will learn more about the movie as filming continues.
