Infinity Ward has provided a roadmap of reveals leading up to the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The latest entry in the Call of Duty series has a ton of hype surrounding it, with it being a reimagining of the trilogy that kickstarted the franchise’s popularity in the gaming space. Infinity Ward has been noticeably quiet about the game’s campaign, only revealing small details about the contents of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare behind closed doors.
The game’s core multiplayer offerings have seen some major changes from top to bottom. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the first game in the series to include cross-play support between PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as the omission of conventional season pass DLC. Infinity Ward is meticulously building the game’s multiplayer with the community at the forefront of each design decision. With a variety of new modes and no DLC to lock players away from one another, the hope is that this will be a Call of Duty title that players will be coming back to for a long time.
Recently, Infinity Ward revealed a visual roadmap showcasing the remaining dates when players can expect Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta access and new reveals. There will be two opportunities for players to jump headfirst into the game, September 12-16, and September 19-23. Between those two beta weekends, Infinity Ward will be revealing new details about crossplay during the week of September 16.
Just a month before launch, fans will finally get a look at the campaign in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at the end of September. Given the fact that the campaign reportedly made playtesters cry and Infinity Ward has doubled down on the fact that they won’t be censoring their vision, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding this particular reveal. That’s not the last thing the developer will be showing off though. On the week of October 7, fans will get to see the new Spec Ops mode in greater detail. Then the wait will begin for the release date on October 25 as the game will finally go live for everyone.
There’s a different air surrounding this year’s Call of Duty title. With the inclusion of crossplay, no season pass, and varying player counts across multiple new modes, it appears that Infinity Ward is looking to put Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on the map again as one of the best first-person shooters around. Infinity Ward also might even include a battle royale mode later down the line as the developer has promised one of the biggest post-launch content schedules in the series history.
