A new promotional clip for Spider-Man: Far From Home features MJ helping Peter Parker suit up as the web-slinging hero. Picking up shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel still directed by Jon Watts will see Peter go on a trip across the pond with his schoolmates. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be much of a vacation, however, with various threats brought by the Elementals and Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) hounding his tour.
Grappling with the death of Tony Stark, Peter will rely on the help of Happy Hogan and Aunt May to get through the grief over losing his mentor. And, as he continues to carry out the the responsibility of a superhero, he also struggles with the idea of being the next Iron Man. The European trip is supposed to be the break he needs to rejuvenate, but with Nick Fury roping him in to team up with Mysterio to take care of unknown threats, Peter won’t have any choice but to suit back up at the risk of his secret identity being revealed. As seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home’s latest trailer, MJ already figures it out, and in a new clip, fans see more of her involvement with Spider-Man’s affairs.
A five-second Spider-Man: Far From Home promo shared on Twitter by MarvelFlix shows Peter putting on his Stealth Suit when Ned walks in on him and MJ. Confused with what’s happening, Peter blurts, “She knows. I told her,” but MJ denies this, saying that he didn’t tell her, she figured it out herself - which is a more accurate depiction of what happened, considering what’s been revealed in the film’s latest full trailer. There’s so much story that Spider-Man: Far From Home has to cover. On top of dealing with Peter’s personal feelings about what went down in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the film also needs to address the massive repercussions of those events. What looked simply like a grounded Spider-Man film turns out to be more complicated than that with the introduction of Mysterio and the multiverse (that is, of course, if Beck is telling the truth about being from another dimension). Considering his characterization in the comic books, Peter and Fury should know better than to take his word for it. Regardless, it’s safe to assume that the upcoming sequel will be more complicated than Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Admittedly, not everyone is impressed with this version of Spider-Man, particularly where his story seems to be headed. However, considering that he’s part of a bigger universe, it makes sense that he’s shaped by the experiences that he’s had dealing with the rest of the MCU. Since Spider-Man: Far From Home takes place not long after Avengers: Endgame, it definitely should address the consequences of its MCU predecessor. His relationships may be playing out a bit differently, including the one he’s having with MJ, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not going to have a different dynamic from what fans know from the comic books.
