A new trailer and January 2020 premiere date have been released for season 2 of Miz & Mrs. Debuting in July 2018, and garnering USA Network’s best ratings for an unscripted show since 2011, the reality series is headlined by the married duo of Mike Mizanin and Maryse Mizanin. Both extremely accomplished WWE stars, the early days of Miz & Mrs provided an inside look at the couple as they prepared for the arrival of their firstborn child. It also chronicled their move from Los Angeles to Texas, as they hoped to find calmer surroundings for their daughter to grow up in. As the show’s first season progressed, Mike and Maryse both adjust to their new responsibilities as parents, while still finding themselves missing their old lives in Los Angeles.
Most episodes of Miz & Mrs didn’t follow a rigid structure, though. While there were running themes, with viewers often getting a glimpse of Mike’s job as a WWE superstar, the series is probably best described as a “reality romcom.” Spun off from Total Divas, which often amped up the drama between romantic partners, Miz & Mrs instead unfolds in the style of a comedy about the trials and tribulations of marriage. With each installment lasting 30 minutes, there’s enough time for the protagonists to get into trouble, get out of it, and learn a lesson in the process. It’s a setup that could come across as trite. Mike and Maryse, to their credit, manage playing their roles with such sincerity that it feels like the audience is watching a version of who they really are. The trailer for season 2 promises to double down on those elements.
Mike “The Miz” Mizanin shared out the trailer for Miz & Mrs season 2 on his Instagram page. The show will return on January 29, 2020. It will have a WWE tie-in as well, airing after NXT. The 30-second spot showcases some of what endeared the show to audiences, revealing that the couple is more than ready to welcome their second daughter. Mike is loud and assured, as always. Maryse is only slightly more subdued in contrast. While Mike’s scene-stealing mother-in-law Marjo isn’t featured, she’s likely back for the ride as well. Check out the trailer below:
For fans who have watched Mike’s evolution in particular, it may be a little jarring to see him go from the sheltered and insensitive kid he was portrayed as in the beginning of his run on MTV’s Real World franchise to the leading man of his very own show. Miz & Mrs has led to major change for Mike’s career in WWE as well, turning him from an antagonistic character in the eyes of wrestling enthusiasts to a reformed villain that has been made better by his family. Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison are among the WWE performers that have made guest appearances on Miz & Mrs, occasionally expressing a kind of bewildered surprise at Mike’s transformation.
Since its premiere, Miz & Mrs has held steady in the ratings throughout 20 episodes. It will be interesting to see if the show’s success will lead to Mike being wrestling’s next crossover star. Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista might have become household names thanks to playing brutes on the big screen, but for John Cena, he started to get noticed on a greater scale after showing a different side of himself on Total Divas. Time will tell if Mike’s career will follow a similar trajectory. For now, he’s looking ahead to Miz & Mrs.
