As Mission: Impossible 6 continues filming, a new image offers the first look at Henry Cavill’s character. One of the most applaudable aspects of the Mission: Impossible film franchise is how it’s been able to seemingly reinvent itself over the years. Beginning the 1990s with the first, Brian DePalma-directed installment, the franchise has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but right now is looking better than it ever has before. Coming off of the success and near-worldwide critical praise of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation in 2015, the franchise is currently preparing to return to the big screen again next year with the currently untitled Mission: Impossible 6.

If there’s one thing that the Mission: Impossible franchise is no stranger to, it’s switching out its main team members fairly consistently throughout the past five installments, sometimes replacing old characters with new ones, only for them to later return again in a future film. But inarguably, one of the most exciting new additions to Mission: Impossible 6 is Henry Cavill, the Man of Steel himself, who will be joining the franchise in a new supporting role.

Filming on Mission: Impossible 6 has been underway in Paris for several weeks now, with multiple set photos teasing car chases and motorcycle sequences fans can expect to see in the film. Following the first look at Rebecca Ferguson’s return to the franchise last week, writer and director Christopher McQuarrie has taken to his Instagram account to offer fans their first image of Cavill in the film. And watch out Superman fans, he’s sporting some interesting new facial hair for the film. Check out the image for yourself down below:

Despite spending most of his time these past few years dedicated to playing Clark Kent/Superman in DC’s burgeoning cinematic universe, Cavill has been making a concerted effort to star in and work on other, smaller budget films as well. In fact, this won’t even be the actor’s first foray into the spy genre, following his work on Guy Ritchie’s underrated 2015 spy comedy, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

But still, Mission: Impossible 6 is without a doubt the biggest and most well-known non-DC project that Cavill has attached himself to in his career so far. Depending on what his role in the film actually ends up being, it could very well be something he revisits again and again in the future, similar to other cast members like Simon Pegg, the previously mentioned Ferguson, Ving Rhames, and more. Granted, not much is known about the plot or story of Mission: Impossible 6 as of yet, but there’s also no denying that it’s already shaping up to be one of next year’s can’t-miss films.
